Prior to Procedure

  • TWO weeks prior to procedure, you will be provided with the following:
    • Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar
    • Prescriptions:
      • Valacyclovir (anti-viral)
      • Oxycodone (pain relief)
      • Medrol Dose Pack (swelling)
      • Valium/Diazepam (anti-anxiety)
  • TWO days prior to procedure:
    • Prepare vinegar soak solution: in a gallon ziplock bag, mix 1 tsp of white vinegar to 8 oz. of water. Keep in the refrigerator so that the mixture will be cold when you begin to use.
    • Discontinue the use of any retinol-type products
    • The most common reason for post treatment infection or acne eruption is the use of products that have accumulated bacteria. Thoroughly clean all your existing makeup brushes and purchase new sponges.
    • If you are prone to cold sores, begin taking Valacyclovir prescription.
  • Day before procedure:
    • Begin taking Valacyclovir prescription (if you have not done so already).
    • Ensure your ride is secured for the following day.
  • Day of Procedure:
    • You must have a ride arranged to and from your appointment day of treatment.
    • Bring all the prescribed medication with you to your appointment.
    • Do NOT take any pain medication until you have signed the treatment consent form with your provider in the office. If you take pain medication prior to signing the consent, your laser treatment will be rescheduled.
    • Begin 1st day of Medrol Dose tablets to your appointment.
    • Bring all the prescribed medication with you to your appointment.
    • Do NOT wear any makeup, jewelry, contact lenses, perfumes, lotions, on your treatment day.
    • If you are male, please arrive clean shaven.
    • Wear comfortable clothes and a button-down shirt.
    • Optional: bring an umbrella with you to use when leaving the office on your way to the car.
    • Recommend sitting in the back seat of the car on your way home to avoid sun exposure.

Post Procedure

  • The skin needs to be coated with the Alastin Soothe + Protect Balm 24/7. If your skin feels dry in any way, re-apply the balm. You may reapply as frequently as needed.
  • Continue to take your prescription medications as directed by your provider.
  • You must use the gloves provided and thoroughly wash hands before touching your face.
  • You may only cleanse with room temperature water, gently splashing the face – no rubbing of the skin in any way.
  • Do not try to exfoliate any peeling skin, let the skin come off on its own, as this could cause scarring.
  • Do not touch children or pets and then touch face. Make sure to wash your hands first with antibacterial soap.
  • If you are experiencing itching, you may take Benadryl in the evening. Do not scratch your face or treated areas, as this can lead to scarring.
  • Ice packs, covered with gauze, or Ziplock bags filled with frozen peas can be applied on top of the Alastin Soothe + Protect Balm for discomfort and/or swelling. If you remove balm while using your ice pack, you must reapply more balm immediately after using the ice pack.
  • Direct sun MUST be 100% avoided until you can start using SPF, as directed by your provider.
  • Your skin may stay red for up to 6 months post procedure. Makeup can usually be applied by week 2 but you must get permission from your provider before.
  • Do not use rough washcloths, facial brushes, scrubs, or anti-aging products for 6 weeks post laser.
  • Do not apply SPF until day 8.

Mornings

  • Wearing gloves, wash your face with baby shampoo and cool water
  • Apply Soothe + Protect Recovery Balm (quarter size)

Evenings

  • Wearing gloves, wash your face with baby shampoo and cool water
  • Apply Soothe + Protect Recovery Balm (quarter size)

Vinegar Soak

  • Starting day 2, you may add vinegar soak mid-day if you are feeling itchy or irritated. Softly pat the treated area with saturated soft gauze. You can soak the treated area for 10-15 minutes. This will help remove crusting and promote sloughing of skin, help with burning and itching, and keep the skin at a healthy pH to prevent infection. DO NOT rub or pick the skin as it heals. Vinegar soaks may be done every 4 hours. Make sure to reapply Soothe + Protect Recovery Balm after vinegar soaks.
