1. During surgery, a surgical garment will be placed. The type of garment will be based on the areas of the body in which you receive liposuction. The garment is to remain intact with the exception of bathroom use until your first postoperative visit in the office.
  2. You will also awaken from surgery with foam between your skin and garment. Please remove the foam 4-6 weeks after surgery.
  3. Continue your antibiotics and pain medications as prescribed by your provider.
  4. Ice packs placed around your areas of liposuction will help reduce swelling and relieve pain.
  5. During your first post-operative appointment, your provider will remove your bandages covering your liposuction site incisions. After this appointment you may shower.
  6. The garment should be worn day and night for 6 weeks after surgery and then for 2 weeks day OR night.
  7. You will be instructed on how to massage your skin once you are about 1-2 weeks out from surgery. This will help to minimize any lumpiness or irregularities that you may feel or see.
  8. Many patients find it helpful to receive perioperative massages, lymphatic drainage treatments and scar therapy post-surgery. Your provider will review these options with you and provide recommendations during your post operative appointments.
  9. It is important that you do not engage in strenuous physical activity for at least 3-4 weeks after surgery.
  10. Avoid any medications listed in your informed consent packet for two weeks prior to your surgery and 2 weeks post-operatively. These medications may increase bleeding.
  11. On the first few days after surgery, it is encouraged that you drink a lot of fluid. Fluids that contain electrolytes are best but stay away from those containing lots of sugar and sodium.
  12. Bruising, tenderness and swelling are normal. However, if you have an area of significant swelling, trouble breathing or pain and swelling in your legs, please contact the office.
  13. NO SMOKING for 8 weeks. Avoid being in a room with smokers. Smoking hinders the healing process.
  14. NO NSAIDS, vitamins or herbal supplements for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after surgery.
  15. Contact the office immediately if you notice any sudden increase in redness, swelling, excessive bleeding/drainage or pain at the surgical site.
