Pre-treatment instructions:
ONE WEEK PRIOR:
- Avoid blood thinning over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve
- Avoid supplements like St. John’s Wort, gingko biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and vitamin E
Two days prior:
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal cream on area to be treated
- DO take arnica two days prior to your appointment, not required but will help lesson bruising
- Do NOT drink alcohol beverages—this can thin your blood and cause more bruising
- IF you are prone to cold sores there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another onset of cold sores. PLEASE let us know if you are prone to them
The day of treatment:
- Arrive at the office with a “clean lip”, i.e. no lipstick, lip gloss, ChapStick, etc
Post treatment instructions:
- Apply an ice pack and arnica topically, arnica is a natural supplement to reduce bruising
- Vaseline topically to lip to keep it hydrated, must be new and not used!
- Acetaminophen to reduce pain as necessary; follow directions on bottle
- Avoid touching lips; could lead to infection
- Only use new products on lips while they heal, i.e. lip gloss, lip stick, ChapStick
- For swelling use an antihistamine during the day, such Zyrtec or Claritin and Benadryl at night
- Avoid alcohol or strenuous exercise as it may cause additional bruising
- To help alleviate bruising take Arnica or Bromelain, eat fresh pineapple or pineapple juice and apply ice to the area
- Avoid kissing humans or animals for at least 72 hours
- Avoid straws for 72 hours
- Do not massage lips unless instructed by your provider
