Note that this is a sensitive and vascular area, so there is typically a lot of swelling and bruising. Do not be alarmed by how the area looks for a few days to a few weeks following your procedure.
You may experience some minor/spot bleeding for a few days following the procedure. You may use a feminine pad for this if it is changed regularly.
It is helpful to ice (use cold compresses provided) the area 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for the first 24 hours as much as possible while awake to help reduce swelling. Icing may continue to be helpful for up to the first 2-3 weeks post procedure.
Continue your antibiotics and pain medications as prescribed by your provider. Do NOT take any NSAIDS (Advil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, etc.) for 2 weeks post procedure. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok. If you develop a yeast infection, please call the office and we may tell you to take the Diflucan prescription.
There are stitches and Dermabond (purple, sterile skin glue) in place. It is important that you leave these in place. Do not pick, pull, or remove them.
It is recommended that you purchase Dermoplast® at your pharmacy. It can be found in the first aid section and will help with irritation and hygiene.
Do not get the incisions wet by bath or shower for 24 hours. In the case of urinating, use caution and gently pat dry. It is helpful to use your Dermoplast® after using the restroom.
Do not enter a swimming pool or hot tub for at least 6 weeks post operatively.
Wash your hands with soap and water and wear gloves when cleaning the incisions. Clean your incisions once daily with baby shampoo. Be gentle and do not scrub the area.
Do not engage in any sexual conduct (intercourse, penetration, or masturbation) for at least 6 weeks after the procedure.
It is important that you do not engage in strenuous physical activity for at least 5-6 weeks after surgery. Do not engage in any activities that will stress the wound for 6 weeks i.e., if you feel a stretch on the incision, discontinue the activity.
If you plan any travel within 6 weeks post operatively, please contact our offices to ensure this level of activity will not compromise your healing.
Bruising, tenderness, and swelling are normal. However, if you have an area of sudden/ significant swelling or spreading redness please contact the office. 303-320-8618.
